Erykah Badu – Window Seat

Erykah Badu has made what is, without a doubt, the most politically charged and provocative music video of the year when she decided to walk down a Dallas sidewalk towards the site of John F. Kennedy’s assassination while undressing.

What’s amazing about this, this potential career breaker, is that there is a general reticence to discuss this promo. MSNBC who put a short piece about it made no comment about its content. So far the wingnuts haven’t waded in, either.

I bet the majority of published discussion is going to be about Erykah’s body image and her online marketing smarts. Her short speech on groupthink at the end will be largely ignored or dismissed.

There is nothing complicated about her message. Basically, think for yourself. Be wary of the murderous instincts of the pack when it feels threatened.

Will firstly great spot! Isn’t the groupthink speech at the end a nod to the Situationist’s? I was surprised that she felt the need to pixelate parts of her body, for me it felt like a cop out and rather diluted the impact of the video. But I do like the vid and it’s a classy and ballsy piece of film making.
